Out-of-Whack Indicator

You know how economists track indicators like GDP growth, inflation etc to gauge the well-being of an economy, or how doctors track indicators like blood pressure or cholesterol count to keep track of your health? I just discovered a new out-of-whack indicator, to keep track of your hipness. I discovered it while I was watching Classic MTV this morn. The out-of whack indicator is calculated by the percentage of videos on Classic MTV that you remember seeing on MTV Fresh (or some such equivalent show in your “youth”, bah). My own indicator now stands at 1%, now that Alanis Morrisette’s “You Oughtta Know” is on Classic MTV.

Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity
I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner
It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced
Are you thinking of me when you fuck her

The OOW indicator can also have a staleness multiplier. If you think any of those numbers still sound better than that crap they play on MTV Fresh, take your OOW indicator and multiply it by 10. Repeat as required.

Any other interesting hipness indicators?
