The psychology of toilet paper usage

Don Norman tried to solve the problem of toilet paper running out by installing two rolls. Alas, he found out that most people use paper from the larger roll. The result - both rolls ran out together! Read the article on the possible (interesting) solutions to this problem.

It reminded me of my own first encounter with the roll. It was a cold winter day in Delhi, and the hot water had run out. If you were raised in India, this will make ample sense to you.

For the definitive last word on the subject, though, visit Cecil who doles out the Straight Dope on what people used before toilet paper was invented. You could also look up “An Irreverent and Almost Complete Social History of the Bathroom” by Frank Muir.
