Sankar on Blogging and Journalism

I forgot to mention in my earlier post on the panel discussion about Sankar’s incisive talk on “ Will blogs change the face of Journalism? “. He’s posted it on his blog. Sankar says:
“One, personal publishing is nothing to do with mass news media.
Two, personal publishing is more a subject of anthropology and sociology rather than mass communication or journalism.”

As I’ve mentioned earlier, blogging tools have brought about social and behavioral changes rather than being grand leaps of technology. I have made a point earlier that such large-scale changes in behavior are known to spur technological progress, which in turns accelerates the adoption of such behavior by more people. It is difficult at this point to predict what kind of consequences the combined social and technological forces will have. But I’m willing to take a bet that the mainstream media will feel its impact.
